Scope

Responsible for delivering all components of the Youth Job Connection program under the Employment Ontario Job Matching and Placement Services. This includes, client service planning and coordination, pre- employment services, job matching, placements and incentives, education and work transitions support. The position will work with employers who require assistance with recruiting, hiring and training needs through incentives and supports. As well, the incumbent will assist job seekers who require placement and jobs that commensurate with their skills. Further, the position will provide ongoing support in job retention, mentoring, coaching and mediation to ensure successful outcomes. Additionally, the position will network and liaise with employers and community professionals to create placements and identify competitive employment opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have above average knowledge of the labour market, a large network of businesses in the Toronto region and the GTA, as well as community services.

 

Responsibilities

The position’s key responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Securing job placements for youth clients in accordance with assigned targets and guidelines
  • Delivering assessment and career development services to increase youth knowledge of job and career options, the job markets, and themselves
  • Developing and conducting customized workshops based on identified needs of youth participating in the program to gain employability skills
  • Supporting youth in their transitions to employment or additional training or education during and after the program
  • Conducting outreach to employers to identify opportunities and to promote job matching and placement
  • Establishing a network of contacts and maintaining an employer database of employers and job leads in order to find suitable placement and employment opportunities for job seekers
  • Developing and implementing a marketing plan to identify opportunities in the “hidden job market” before employers start their recruiting process (i.e. job posting)
  • Assessing employers’ eligibility to participate in the program and workplace capacity to provide a positive work experience and workplace training
  • Developing training plans with employers and participants and negotiating incentive for placements and or training
  • Assisting employers identifying the skills and competencies required by staff members to perform work, as well as matching the competencies with clients’ capabilities
  • Conducting, monitoring, and providing coaching and mediation in resolving on the job issues that may impact placement/employment outcomes
  • Negotiating placement with individuals and employers for varying durations, as well as working with senior management on financial incentives for clients
  • Developing a network of mentors to provide mentoring support for participants during and after placement
  • Delivering workplace safety training sessions for participants prior to placement in the workplace, as well as added value workshops for employers
  • Providing management with recommendations and rationale for placement in a timely manner in order to administer contracts with employers
  • Developing a process to provide feedback on clients’ status to referring staff in a timely manner in order to ensure that case management activities are up-to-date
  • Supporting employers in identifying and resolving workplace issues in order to ensure that their business goals are met
  • Promoting the services of Polycultural in the community and identifying business development opportunities in order to help the organization grow
  • Administering contracts with employers, writing rationales for decisions, and ensure timely processing of claims/payments
  • Maintaining accurate and complete case documentation in internal and external database systems and monitoring placements, including follow-ups, surveys, and outcomes
  • Must meet targets set by funders and Programs Manager
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Business Administration, Marketing, Career Counseling Diploma/Degree, or Job Development Diploma
  • A minimum of two years of experience in one or more of these areas: recruitment, job development, and sales and marketing
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering presentations and facilitating workshops
  • Demonstrated career and employment counselling skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills with ability to develop power point presentations and manage databases of employer and community contacts
  • Ability to work independently, as well as co-operate in a team
  • Demonstrated organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian labour market information and labour trends
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Above average communication skills - verbal and written
  • Knowledgeable in community resources and have a large network of contacts in the business community
  • Ability to work flexible schedules on an as-needed basis including evenings or weekends as necessary
  • Demonstrated problem solving and organizational skills, in order to develop and execute initiatives with minimal supervision
  • Superior judgment and political acuity to manage issues that could potentially impact the organization’s reputation
  • Highly professional work ethics that complement the business standards of Polycultural
  • Valid G license is required, with access to a vehicle and a clean driving record
