Scope

Responsible for leading the sewing club once a week, during which the volunteer guides the participants through the process of sewing and alteration.

 

Responsibilities

  • Determine appropriate sewing techniques before classes
  • Assist the participants and inspecting patterns
  • Perform alterations to existing patterns
  • Select suitable thread and placing it in the sewing machine
  • Cut, sew, and stitch fabric
  • Affix buttons, zippers, clasps, laces, and similar fittings
  • Replace the sewing machine’s needle as required
  • Detect and repair basic faults with the sewing machine as they occur

 

Qualifications

  • Fluent in English
  • Completion of a sewing course is preferred
  • Ability to create, read, and follow sewing patterns
  • Experienced in operating a sewing machine
  • Sensitivity to cross-cultural differences
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have access to a computer with a webcam and internet connection
  • Proficiency in using Zoom to facilitate an online workshop or group if needed

  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
